Why isn't Bugo famous???
Like more than just Italy famous,I'm talking about the type of fame that only English speakers seem to achieve in the perilous world of indy rock music.
A couple of months ago Marco stuck a song on in the car from one of his old cds. Unsure if I'd like it cause it is a "a little strange". The first time I heard Bugo was the first time I had hope that I could find somethine remotely cool in Italy, having left behind all the indy concerts and bands, nightspots and hipsters that form 80% of Toronto culture for the still under 30 and rockin' crowd of Toronto.Although some of his songs might be a a little outdated with their overuse of technology, something that North Americans tired of a couple of years back, overall every single song is fresh with a wicked beat.Ok this was off a cd he made with an artist called Viola. Truthfully I know nothing of Bugo and nothing of Viola. In general the personal lives of musicians interests me very little. I know that I like the pants here wears and his site is nice www.bugo-net.it.
I also see that he has played very little outside of Italy.Italians are strange. They give so much hype to anything up and coming and so fresh that the group hasn't even formed a name, that any small english singing bacd car tour the whole paese. But here they have their very own uncopiednew rock star that is completely ignored. It is like they temselves are suffering this huge identity crisis and think that their own "new" culture is non existent and dead. I think if Sigur Ros can make it big singing in whatever the hell language he sings in why not Bugo in Italian. The podcast you can download at your pleasure includes 3 songs our of 40 that I love. These three in particular and the ones that I have a very hard time getting out of my head. And I liked them before I could understand the words.
I'm not a huge fan of translations but more or less I've included a rough idea below about what he sings in Amore Mio. There is no guarentee what so ever, that I haven't completely gotten it wrong.
Bugo - Amore Mio Infinito lyrics
Artist: Bugo
Album: Sguardo Contemporaneo Year: 2006 Title: Amore Mio Infinito
Quando vado a scuola, mammamia che fatica!Che brutta la salita!
When I go to school, it takes to much effort, what a brutal climb.
But today I have a drawing, how nice it is to go to school
Perhaps my dear teacher doesn't understand, my infinate love, my infinate love.
I take my bike, gotta do it fast I'm proud of me.
On a piece of paper I drew the sun and the hills, the sun and the girl
I walk on the ocean, an ocean of fruit smoothy, but I never go all the way downUn vento di sciroccoe nuvole di spinaci,io voglio i suoi baci!
A wind of scirocco (I have to ask Marco, no idea what scirocco is....maybe syrop??)
Clouds of spinach, I want her kisses.
Love is eating a hot cross bun, that the girl reheated.
But now that its cold I'm gonna eat it the same.

About Me
